Standing Cable Side Laterals

Exercise:

Standing Cable Side Laterals

Target Muscle:

Shoulders (Medial)

Secondary Muscle:

Traps

Equipment Needed:

Cable machine with low pully, single hand attachment

Proper Execution:

Grip the handle and pick it up off the ground. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hold the handle in front of your body with your arm slightly bent. Raise the handle out to the side of your body until your upper arm is slightly higher than your shoulders. Lower the handle over the same path and continue until you reach muscular failure. Repeat the movement for both arms.

Tips:

Make sure you don't raise the handle too high (slightly higher than shoulder-height about right) as this can put stress on your shoulder joint and lead to an injury.
